The Jama Masjid is the largest mosque
in India, open to tourists also conducts daily prayers, like other
monuments you may need to pay a surcharge for taking photos. To
really feel the local charm you need to visit this grand splendor,
the walk to the main entrance will take you back to the old days with
a road sprawling with local vendors and purchasers alike, from food
to clothing to water sellers and more.
If you have eaten too many dosa's for
breakfast and require a work out, the minaret to the left can be
climbed, tickets available at a booth nearby. The height of each
stair is about double of a normal tread and the space of this spiral
is confined, this is not recommended for claustrophobic people and or
anyone who cannot run a kilometer without stopping for water a smoke
a nap and to call a taxi. If you are walking up, its advisable to
carry an extra pair of socks.
Once above though you will have a birds
eye view of Delhi, including that of the nearby redfort and Qutub
Minar in a distance.
